The natural world is amazing. Zoologists classify all marine animals into five groups:
- sirens;
- cetaceans;
- pinnipeds;
- cunyas;
- bearish.
How can mammals dive deep?
They all feel great in the water, tolerate the cold and eat what the sea brings. Some of them are able to dive to great depths, hold their breath for tens of minutes. Serious depth allows you to swim faster, hide from the threat. Most mammals tolerate underwater pressure due to the varying diameter of the aorta. And cetaceans are considered diving record holders.
The key to full diving is a significant body weight, a developed arterial and venous system. Special muscles are needed that allow you to store a myriad of oxygen. Who dives the deepest of all?
Seventh place - dolphins
Dolphins feel comfortable at a depth of up to 200 meters. But under the US Navy there is a special combat unit. The trained dolphin Tuffy was able to plunge to the minus mark 300 meters. This will allow you to perform complex technical tasks. And this is not the limit.
Sixth place - blue whale
The average depth of habitat of the blue whale is 200 meters. But the animal is able to stoop to 550 meters. This can occur from fear, injury, lack of food. It is the largest mammal on the planet. Its weight can be up to 130 tons.With all this, he eats only a small fish, shrimp and plankton.
Fifth place - a notch
Outwardly, this toothed whale looks like a dolphin, it spends a considerable time of its life under water. Military locators threaten this species. They knock down their internal natural navigation, make them float at high speed. Until recently, the entire study of the creature was reduced to the study of carcasses ejected from the ocean. The depth record is 970 meters.
Fourth place - killer whale
More recently, this whale was considered coastal. But the fishermen began to find them away from the coast, where deep-sea fish are found. Scientists were able to fix the rate of immersion on 1100 meters. This mammal has a unique venous system, it can easily withstand high pressure. Strong muscles accumulate a large dose of oxygen, allowing a long and deep immersion.
Third place - elephant seals
The elephant seal is the largest seal in the world. He goes on land only during the mating season and for the birth of babies. With the help of the beast, scientists can establish what is happening in the ocean, whether the planet is waiting for any changes. The creature is able to descend to a depth 1300 meters. But the fact is that in the habitat there is no more serious bottom. So the indicated number is clearly not the limit. The elephant seal can sleep for a long time at a depth of 100 meters.
Second place - sperm whale
According to official sources, this giant is capable of diving to a depth of 600 meters. But recently, near the Mauritius Islands, a sensor mounted on the body of a sperm whale showed 1800 meters. A successful hunting on a deep bottom, the animal owes a unique location system: the victim is detected by outgoing electromagnetic pulses. To fall to a great depth makes love of squid.
The deepest diving mammal
This mammal of a cetacean squad weighs 2-3 tons, its length is up to 7 meters. The whale lives in all seas, except for the Arctic Ocean. The animal prefers warm water. Off the west coast of the United States was a record dive - 2900 meters lasting almost three hours.
It is worth noting that the anti-rating of the “best divers” is led by a polar bear. It is easily submerged by 2-3 meters (adequate to its height). The fat reserve does not allow him to go to a more serious depth.
The need for a large amount of food makes the marine giants sink to the ocean floor. A small mammal cannot do this. But climate change, the process of evolution will soon make it fall below three kilometers. Perhaps such a record has long been set. But the technical capabilities of biologists, the lack of urgent need for such studies do not allow to determine the main champion. And not all creatures are still open. Some species of whales were discovered only in the 21st century!
